YWEmpowered is a year-long professional leadership development program for women ages 18 to 35 designed to strengthen personal leadership skills, build confidence, and explore the myriad ways women can be inclusive leaders in the workplace, their personal life, or in their community. YWEmpowered is offered over a twelve month period and features eight half-day leadership development sessions with field experts and two YWCA special events focused on leadership. Participants must commit to attending eight out of ten offerings.
Admission to YWEmpowered is by application, with 25 spaces available in each cohort. A limited number of spaces are available at no cost to the participant. Invited companies may nominate a young female employee to participate for $500 for the entire year. All YWEmpowered participants are asked to maintain a current YWCA Utah membership during their time in the program. YWEmpowered actively seeks a diverse pool of young women for each cohort.
Ways to get involved:
Upon successful program completion all graduates will receive a certificate of completion and will receive an invitation to join the YWCA Young Women’s Council, an active group of young women volunteers who participate in service and advocacy. The Young Women’s Council also plans the annual YWCA Young Women’s Leadership Summit and has access to mentoring opportunities with YWCA Board members and other community members.
YWCA and Young Women’s Leadership Development
YWCA Utah was established in Utah in 1906 as a women’s membership organization dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights of women and girls. As a member of the oldest and largest women’s movement in the world, our most essential job is to imagine, fight for and create a more socially just world for the next generation of young women and prepare them for the future (A Persimmon Paper on the YWCA USA Generational Imperative, 2017).
