Staff Member Reaches 20-Year Anniversary at YWCA Utah
Joan Remund celebrates 20 years with YWCA Utah spanning roles as Case Manager, Transitional Housing Director, Director of the Salt Lake Area Family Justice Center, and most recently Program Administrator for domestic violence services.
Remund joined YWCA Utah staff in 2002 as a Case Manager in the Kathleen Robison Huntsman (KRH) Apartments transitional housing program. She served as Director of Transitional Housing from 2008-2014, before spending three years as Manager of Contract Compliance. In 2017 she was re-appointed as Director of Transitional Housing and in 2021, assumed direction of the Salt Lake Area Family Justice Center (SLAFJC) at YWCA Utah. She has worked with survivors of domestic violence for over 20 years in both direct client service and administration. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Family Sciences from Brigham Young University in with a minor in Sociology. As the SLAFJC Director, Remund was responsible for the daily operation of the SLAFJC, including providing oversight to the Survivor-Driven/Housing First programming and direct supervision of the Housing Coordinator.
"In the 20 years I have worked at YWCA Utah I have learned so much about myself, triumphs and challenges of human nature, leadership and separating from my own judgements when assisting others on their terms," says Remund of her experience. She continues, "I have always said that one of the highlights of doing this work is that you get to do it next to wonderful, dedicated and fun-loving people who inspire you in many ways. There is something special about being part of a team who are working towards common goals. And though we wade through difficult situations with our program participants, it is so satisfying when our efforts result in benefit for someone else. I have always been grateful that I get to experience that here at the YWCA."Joan's new role as Program Administrator is responsible for assisting the Chief Mission Impact Officer with program development, planning, implementation, and evaluation within a dynamic, meaningful environment that focuses on the safety, racial and gender equity, healing, empowerment, and self-determination of victims and survivors. The Program Administrator is an expert on domestic violence, trauma-informed care, the impact of DV on children, and DV-related homelessness.
