RE – Remembrance, Resilience, and Retelling Our Stories

WITH JASMINE DESPAIN (THEY/SHE)

WEDNESDAY | DECEMBER 2, 2020 | 6 PM-8 PM | VIA ZOOM
Free to all Womxn, Femmes, and Non-Binary Persons of Color
Have you ever retold a story from the past to someone new because it was so funny? Maybe you have recreated through conversation your favorite dinner time recipe from your youth relived memories connected to past smells or favorite music, and recalled what you ate and danced to on your last birthday; creating a new moment of memory and connection. In this session, we will explore the practice of oral tradition and the importance of storytelling within our communities, our people, and ourselves. We will celebrate the ability to restart, remember, and relive moments from our personal and collective storybooks.

Preparation & Supplies Needed for this Workshop:

  • Set up your device in a private and comfortable location
  • A sketchbook or journal to write any thoughts or reflection
  • Your intentions and thoughts for the designated activities

Coming Home with Poetry

WITH ANNE ROJAS (SHE/HER/ELLA)

WEDNESDAY | JANUARY 6, 2021 | 6 PM-8 PM | VIA ZOOM
Free to all Womxn, Femmes, and Non-Binary Persons of Color
What is home? Who is home? How do we make a home in a world that does not feel like home? Can we let go of what was once home? Coming home with poetry will explore the unapologetic transitions coming home can feel like and invite you to think about what home means to you when you are facing changes in life. We will explore this theme through creating a series of short poems, notes, metaphors, and reminders we are fluid and open to change. No previous writing or poetry experience is required to participate.

Preparation & Supplies Needed for this Workshop:

  • Set up your device in a private and comfortable location

  • Have available a notepad, paper, journal or sketchbook, and a writing utensil

  • Your intentions and thoughts for the writing exercises
